Sushi Rolls are a popular Japanese dish made with sushi rice, fish or vegetables, and nori seaweed. This dish has become increasingly popular worldwide and is loved for its unique taste and beautiful presentation. Here's a simple recipe for making sushi rolls at home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Nori seaweed sheets
  • Sushi-grade fish or vegetables (such as cucumber, avocado, and carrots)
  • Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for serving

Start by washing the sushi rice in a fine-mesh colander until the water runs clear. Then, combine the rice and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.

In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar and salt have dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool.

Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and add the vinegar mixture. Stir gently to combine, being careful not to mash the rice. Let the rice cool to room temperature.

To make the sushi rolls, place a sheet of nori on a sushi mat or a piece of plastic wrap. With wet fingers, spread a thin layer of the sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top edge. Place the fish or vegetables in a line across the center of the rice. Roll the sushi away from you, using the mat or plastic wrap to compress the roll as you go. Moisten the top border of the nori with water to seal the roll.

Using a sharp knife, slice the sushi rolls into bite-sized pieces. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
