Beef tamales are a popular Mexican dish that is loved by many. This recipe will guide you through the process of making this delicious dish, step-by-step. It's a great option for a family dinner or any special occasion.

Ingredients:

  • 2lbs of beef chuck
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp of cumin powder
  • 1 tsp of chili powder
  • 1 tsp of oregano
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 2 cups of masa harina
  • 2 cups of beef broth
  • 1 cup of lard
  • 1 package of dried corn husks

Start by trimming the fat off of the beef chuck and cutting it into small pieces. In a large pot, add the beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin powder, chili powder, oregano, and salt. Add enough water to cover the beef and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 2 hours or until the beef is tender. Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the pot and let it cool. Shred the beef and set it aside.

In a separate bowl, mix the masa harina with the beef broth until it forms a smooth dough. In a separate bowl, beat the lard until it is light and fluffy. Gradually add the masa harina mixture to the lard, mixing until it is well combined.

Soak the corn husks in warm water for about 30 minutes. Once the husks are soft, remove them from the water and pat them dry. Take a corn husk and spread a thin layer of the masa mixture on it, leaving about 1 inch at the top and bottom. Add some shredded beef in the center of the masa mixture. Roll the corn husk from one side to the other, making sure that the masa mixture completely covers the beef. Fold the bottom of the corn husk up and tie it with kitchen twine. Repeat this process until all of the beef and masa mixture has been used.

Place the tamales in a steamer basket and steam them for about 1 hour or until the masa mixture is cooked through. Remove the tamales from the steamer basket and let them cool for a few minutes. Serve hot with your favorite toppings, such as salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.
