Gumbo is a flavorful and hearty stew that originated in Southern Louisiana. This dish is typically made with a mix of meats, vegetables, and spices, and is served over a bed of rice. Here's how to make your own delicious gumbo at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound sausage, sliced
- 1 pound chicken, diced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 3 stalks celery, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
- 1 can tomato sauce (8 oz)
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 pound okra, sliced
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 2 bay leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups cooked rice
Instructions:
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the sausage over medium-high heat until browned. Remove the sausage and set aside.
- Add the chicken to the pot and cook until browned. Remove the chicken and set aside with the sausage.
- Add the onion, green bell pepper, celery, and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, okra, thyme, and bay leaves to the pot. Stir to combine.
