Caramelized Onion and Fennel Gratin Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 fennel bulbs, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
To begin, preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and fennel, and cook until caramelized and tender, about 20-25 minutes. Add the fresh thyme leaves and salt and pepper to taste.Transfer the caramelized onions and fennel to a 9x13 inch baking dish. In a small bowl, mix together the Parmesan cheese and panko breadcrumbs. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the onions and fennel.Pour the heavy cream over the top of the gratin. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the gratin is bubbling and heated through. Serve hot and enjoy!
