Caramel flan, also known as crème caramel, is a classic dessert that is loved by many. This creamy, custard-like dessert is perfect for any occasion, from family gatherings to romantic dinners. This recipe is easy to follow and will result in a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth flan that will leave your taste buds begging for more.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns into a golden caramel color. Be careful not to burn it.
- Quickly pour the caramel into a 9-inch round baking dish, tilting it to coat the bottom and sides. Set aside to cool.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs until they are well combined.
- Add the sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix until everything is well combined.
- Pour the mixture into the caramel-coated dish.
- Place the dish into a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the dish.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set. To check if it's done, insert a toothpick in the center. If it comes out clean, the flan is ready.
- Remove the dish from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the dish to loosen the flan. Invert the dish onto a serving plate and enjoy!
