Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 egg
- 1 container (15 ounces) ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
To start, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, basil, fennel seeds, pepper, and parsley to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the ricotta cheese, 1 1/2 cups of the mozzarella cheese, and the Parmesan cheese.
To assemble the lasagna, spread a layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover the sauce with 3 lasagna noodles, then spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture on top. Repeat with another layer of sauce, noodles, and ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a final layer of sauce and the remaining mozzarella cheese.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.Serve hot and enjoy your delicious homemade lasagna!
