Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 12 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- Oil for frying
- 1 cup marinara sauce, for serving
Begin by heating the oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. While the oil is heating up, prepare the mozzarella sticks. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). In another shallow dish, beat the eggs. In a third shallow dish, place the breadcrumbs.
Dip each mozzarella stick into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, dip the stick into the beaten eggs, making sure to coat it completely. Finally, roll the stick in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to help the crumbs adhere.
Once all the mozzarella sticks are coated, carefully place a few at a time into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat with the remaining sticks.
Serve the fried mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
