Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 tsp of active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup of warm water
  • 1/3 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup of whole milk, room temperature
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp of ground cardamom
  • 1/2 cup of chopped almonds (optional)

First, dissolve the yeast in a small bowl with the warm water and let it sit for a few minutes until it becomes frothy. In a separate large bowl, beat the sugar and softened butter together until creamy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add in the milk and salt, and mix until well combined.

In another bowl, whisk together the flour and ground cardamom. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Roll out the dough into a rectangle shape, and sprinkle the chopped almonds on top. Starting from the long end, roll up the dough tightly into a log shape. Cut the log into 12 even slices and place them into a greased baking dish. Cover the dish with a damp towel and let the buns rise for about an hour in a warm place until they double in size.
