Spicy Sausage and Penne Bake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound penne pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound hot Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in dried oregano and red pepper flakes and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Add crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Stir in fresh basil and cooked penne pasta, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Transfer pasta mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheeses.
  9. Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
