Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup boiling water
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, until just combined.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cocoa powder and boiling water until smooth.
- Take 1/3 of the batter and mix it with the cocoa mixture.
- Place a spoonful of the vanilla batter into the prepared loaf pan, followed by a spoonful of the chocolate batter. Continue alternating spoonfuls of vanilla and chocolate batter until all the batter is used up.
- Using a skewer, gently swirl the batter to create a marbled effect.
- Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and place it on a wire rack to cool completely.
